Bresicani toys collection of toys made by italian children of Brescia

On February 2005 I spent some days in Brescia (Italy), in the CEM residence, attending a meeting with CEM’s toys made by italian childrencollaborators. Over there I made a nice discovery: a small exhibition of toys made by Italian children was displayed in the nearestSan Cristo Saveriani church. That day I was lucky. In fact, in today times it's so rare to find traces of local children’s toy-makers, expressing their natural talent for the construction game, using whatever were available around them, independently designing and making things.
Over there, I have spent some hours observing and taking pictures of these children’s creations, sharing opinions and comments with Maria, my assistant.

Those toys were the final result of an articulated school project. The project had involved students of different local primary schools, aiming to link cultures and communicate current African’s issues to local Bresciani people.
To design and make their toys children were inspired from the “Vuoi giocare con noi?” (Would you like to play with us?) toys exhibition which is an Italian touring exhibition on African children’s toys and African tales. toys made by italian children of Brescia town

Toys made by Bresciani children are now part of a virtual display of images which can be appreciated onwww.ilovetoymaking.com
It's a website to collect pictures of toys made by children and adult's memories about their play and game activity.
To have more information about the collection of African toys log in these website pages (unfortunately they are only in Italian).
They will offer you the vision of many pictures of toys made by children for the tourists (toys to sell) and toys made by children for themselves or other local children (toys to play).

By this comparison you will discover the real nature of childhood - when it is not forced by the market, when adults will be prepared to welcome what is not slick and polished.
